Beach Destination Wedding Dress Code: Attire Guide

One of the most asked questions that we receive from Destination Wedding guests is “How should I dress for a Destination Wedding?”

This is such an important question and believe us—we know why it’s being asked! Dressing comfortably for a destination wedding is important for several reasons. Beach Destination Weddings are all usually held outdoors, and the weather is usually HOT—you don’t want to wear fabrics that can be heavy or even worse…make you perspire. Destination weddings also typically last for hours from the cocktail hour to the wedding ceremony, and then there’s the reception. You want to wear comfortable clothing and footwear so that you are not distracted by your outfit, while still being stylish.

Since we understand all of the above all too well—we have put together a few suggestions on what to wear to a destination wedding.

Before viewing our suggestions, we do advise to always check the dress code specified on your wedding initiation if there is any and make sure that your outfit is appropriate for the occasion.

So, lets get to it!

Here are our suggestions for Beach Destination Wedding Wear for Women-

  • Sundresses or Maxi Dresses - lightweight and flowy sundresses or maxi dresses in bright, pastel or floral patterns that suit the beach vibe. Chiffon is a lightweight and sheer fabric that will drape beautifully—and also because its soft, breathable, and flows gracefully it adds an elegant touch. Georgette fabric is also lightweight similar to chiffon but has a slightly crinkled texture giving it a unique and sophisticated look.

  • Jumpsuits or Rompers - a stylish jumpsuit or romper made of breathable fabric is a chic choice. Rayon jumpsuits and cotton rompers are both very breathable and soft.

  • Dressy Separates - a nice top with a skirt or wide-leg pants can create an elegant and beach-appropriate look

  • Sandals or Wedges - these are best for walking in the sand. Always opt for a wedge over a heel for a beach wedding

  • Sun hat & Sunglasses - be prepared, you may be in the sun for awhile so a stylish sun hat and sunglasses will help protect you from the sun

Here are our suggestions for Beach Destination Wedding Wear for Men:

  • Linen Suit - a lightweight linen suit in a light color such as beige or light gray always goes over well. This is a classic choice for a beach wedding. Linen is breathable and perfect for warm weather

  • Dress Shirt and Dress pants - especially in light/pastel color(s) this goes over really well. You can roll up the sleeves for a more laid back look

  • Guayabera Shirt - with unique pleats and embroidery, this is a good choice for beach weddings due to its comfort and style

  • Blazer and chinos - this is a smart-casual outfit

  • Bermuda shorts - these can be worn if the vibe is more casual

  • Loafers or Sandals - stylish leather sandals and comfy loafers are ideal when walking through sand

  • Sunhat and Sunglasses - to protect you from the sun

We hope that these suggestions have helped you out a bit with your wardrobe choices for Beach Destination Weddings. We do ask again that when you are dressing for such an occasion that you double check your wedding invite to make sure that your outfit will be in sync with the couple’s preferences. Dressing appropriately for the beach setting will allow you to enjoy the wedding festivities comfortably while looking stylish.
